Vanessa Mercedes (Aguilar) Harriss is an artist based in Tacoma, Washington, who graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Visual Art from The Evergreen State College. Vanessa was born in 1995 and spent her early childhood in the Central Valley of California, before moving to her hometown Sacramento. Her work is a response to the personal, social, and cultural experiences she has had throughout her life. She currently spends time reflecting on themes of place and home, on her multifaceted identify, and her journey with her mental health and the experiences that inform it.
Harriss has exhibited in museums and galleries throughout Washington State, including the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, The Collective Visions Gallery, and Nepantla Cultural Arts Gallery. Her work is also included in the Mi Centro Arts & Cultural Center collection located in Tacoma, Washington. Through her work she hopes to ignite conversation, and empathy.
